The following is a recipe for washing/cleaning walls. This also works well for cleaning out kitchen/bathroom cabinets, closet shelves, window sills, tops of door casings etc...I have used this recipe since I was a young boy, however, you may want to make sure that the use of the recipe against your skin does not affect you. Again, consult a professional if in question.

To mix and use this solution you will need the following:

-1 cup of Ammonia
-1/2 cup of Vinegar (white or apple cider is fine).
-1/4 cup of baking soda
-2 buckets
-2 gallons of warm water (I prefer this some may prefer less)
-2 rags or towels (when folded in quarters or fourths have them still larger than you hand)
-Ladder or Chair (unless you're tall)

Fill the 2 buckets each with 2 gallons of warm water (bath tub works great). Turn off the water, and add (in 1 bucket only) the Ammonia, Vinegar, and Baking Soda. The other bucket of warm water with out the solution will be for rinsing an not washing.

Prior to washing any wall/cabinet, it is best to broom/wipe down either of any cob webs, dust, or food. This will prohibit any streaks or mud from happening when the wet rag is applied.

TECHNIQUE

Once the surface area is clean of all obstacles, the following method works well for cleaning the walls:

Step 1: Put both buckets (1 with the solution and 1 with the water) where you can get access to them. Put both rags in the solution bucket. Then, pull out 1 rag and ring so that it remains damp but not dripping. Fold the rag in fourths, reach up, and begin in the corner of the wall where it meets the ceiling.

Step 2: Wipe horizontally across (to the right in the photo) the wall about 2-3 feet, then back again in the opposite direction. Move the rag/towel down about the width of the folded rag and repeat the procedure. You can do this two or three times and can unfold, then fold again the rag/towel as needed using the back side of the rag that has remained clean.

Step 3: When you have gone down about 2-3 feet, do the above procedure vertically or move the rag up then down again. Move up and down across the space that you previously did.

Step 4: Rinse the rag/towel in the bucket with out the solution. You can even leave the dirty rag in the rinse water, then repeat Step 1 by retrieving, rinsing, and folding the next clean rag in the other bucket. Then continue as before. It is always good to start high then move down. This allows you to go over any dripping or streaks.
